How do I find UK public sector contracts before they go to tender?
Public bodies publish a contract details notice when they award, and it usually carries the contract end date. That date is the signal: a contract ending in eighteen months will be re-tendered in roughly twelve, and the buyer starts shaping the requirement months before that. ContractWindow reads every notice on Find a Tender, extracts those end dates and ranks what is coming.
What is a re-tender window?
The period before a contract expires when the buyer is preparing its replacement: writing the specification, running market engagement and deciding the scope. It is the only point at which a supplier who is not the incumbent can influence what gets bought. ContractWindow computes it from the published end date and typical procurement lead times for that value and category. It is an estimate, not an announcement.
Who is the incumbent supplier on a public contract?
The supplier that currently holds it, named on the award notice the buyer published. Knowing the incumbent tells you who you are displacing, what they charged and how long they have held it, which is most of what you need to decide whether bidding is worth the effort.
Where does the data come from?
The Find a Tender Service OCDS API, the UK government's official procurement data feed, under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Contract end dates, values and supplier names are as the buyer published them. Nothing is scraped and nothing is guessed.
Is it free?
Live tenders open for bids, buyer profiles and award history are free and need no account. The expiry radar, which is the computed view of what is coming up for renewal and who holds it now, is the paid product.
